Midweek Mani: Wet 'n Wild Be More Pacific
This polish is by Wet 'n Wild and is a new part of the "Wildshine" line. The color is #483D, "Be More Pacific," and is available at most drugstores, as well as one of my favorite websites: drugstore.com.
For starters I was attracted to this bottle of polish because it makes for an excellent summer color. It resembles the deep aqua of the pacific ocean, which, based on the name of the polish, is clearly what the company is trying to emulate. There is no question that this is a great color for a really exceptional price. How can you beat 99 cents?
However, and this is a BIG however, this was one of the single worst formulas for application that I have ever used! After a nice coat of Seche Vite's clear base coat, I went in for the color. My first thoughts were that the design of the bottle is really burdensome. The rectangular shaped twist-off handle is awkward to hold, making fumbling mistakes even more likely. Then, when I opened the bottle for the first time, immediately the brush stuck to the bottle instead of the handle. All nail polish users know how truly annoying this is to fix, especially once your nails already have a base coat on them that is in the process of drying. After finally getting the brush to stick to the handle of the bottle, I brushed on the first layer of color. This being a dark color, very small mistakes are very obvious, so the bulky and awkward handle was very much in my way. The polish itself is very thick and fast-drying, which is good in that it hardly even requires the standard two coats of color, but really unfortunate in that it actually dries too fast! You would think this isn't possible, but when you're taking your time trying not to coat your cuticles, an extra fast drying polish ends up looking patchy and uneven because the first stroke dries before the adjacent stroke is finished being placed. The only way I could combat this was to go ahead and make the cuticle mistakes, paint as fast as I could, and then tidy up my cuticles with acetone on a paintbrush. This worked out nicely overall but was honestly not worth the trouble. Had the polish formula been more user-friendly, this would have been one of my favorite polishes just because the color is so rich. I guess I can't be too picky when it comes to 99 cent colors!
As always I used Seche Vite clear base coat, two coats of the given color, one coat of OPI top coat to prevent chipping, and a final coat of Seche Vite to have a fast drying and lacquer finish. With this application style the color (even a 99 cent, poor-application formula) lasts chip-free for a minimum of four days. And even after all that hassle, the color still looks pretty darn good!
