Show Recap: Pins and Needles

This past Saturday, I was a part of the team for the annual Pins and Needles fashion show. Once a year,  Pins and Needles gives emerging designers a chance to compete for a pretty amazing prize package. This year's contestants were Alexis Cook, Rene Frances, a New Hampshire native, as well as Saint Louis' own Enk'd, Ryan Moore, Brittany Rader and Barbara Bultman. The pre-party and after-party were held in the gorgeous upstairs area of the Boo Cat Club, where you could mingle with other fashion-forward folk, and browse booths from local makers and shops. The fashion show itself, on the other hand, was held in the catacombs-like basement of the Boo Cat Club.

This was my first fashion show spent DJing and not just viewing the runway! I was only able to catch glimpses as pieces walked the runway. If you have ever done any kind of theater, dance, or performance-based anything, you know how hectic working behind the scenes can be! I had been at the venue for 7 hours already before the fashion show even hit the runway. It was such a cool experience to be a part of the "crew."

The evening's winners were Barbara Bultman for judge's choice, and Alexis Cook for people's choice. Truly Alvarenga, who won last year's judge's choice, opened the show this year with a collection as well. I look forward to seeing what the designers create from here!
