Tune Tuesday: NYC's Sunflower Bean

Hailing from Brooklyn, New York, Sunflower Bean is the sound I need right now in my life. It's
reminiscent of something I would have put on repeat during summers of my teenage years - heavy, easily discernible bass, boys with big hair and nail polish, and effervescent yet emotional vocals. They're a trio of classic rock lovers with quite the history of gigging under their belt already after only about 3 years together.

To be perfectly honest, I've never been the biggest fan of female vocalists, especially when they fall in the "singer-songwriter" category. I like my women with grit, moxie, and a little bit of attitude. This explains my long-running obsession with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and I catch a lot of Karen O in Sunflower Beans' song "Tame Impala." When singer Julia Cumming joined the group, Sunflower Bean even morphed its way in and back out of a slightly doom metal phase. I like their current state quite a bit, and am looking forward to their album's release on February 5th. Check out a song as well as a video below!
